Fluthers Wood is situated two miles from the coastal town of Leven and three miles from Largo, the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk, immortalised by Daniel Defoe as Robinson Crusoe. St Andrews, the home of golf, is only 15 miles away. Fife currently has over forty golf courses. Leven itself has two beautiful courses and Lower Largo has both an 18-hole and a 9-hole course. The former has frequently served as a qualifier course when the British Open Championship is held at St Andrews.

Scotland's capital, Edinburgh, the ' Athens of the North', is only 35 miles distant over the world famous Forth Bridge. Other major cities such as Stirling, Dundee and Perth are all within an hour's drive of Leven.
